Menstrual Diorders

Normal Menstruation

Menstruation is the shedding of the uterine lining (endometrium). It occurs on a regular basis in reproductive-age females.

Menstruation is the most visible phase of the menstrual cycle. Menstrual cycles are counted from the first day of menstrual bleeding, because the onset of menstruation corresponds closely with the hormonal cycle.

During pregnancy and for some time after childbirth, menstruation is normally suspended; this state is known as amenorrhoea, i.e. absence of the menstrual cycle. If menstruation has not resumed, fertility is low during lactation. The average length of postpartum amenorrhoea is longer when certain breastfeeding practices are followed; this may be done intentionally as birth control.

Menstruation- Menorrhagia

Menorrhagia is very heavy or excessive menstrual bleeding, or bleeding between periods. In most cases, the cause can't be found. Known causes of menorrhagia include polyps, fibroids, endometriosis, infection and some forms of contraception.

Menstruation - dysmenorrhoea

Dysmenorrhoea means painful periods. Normal menstruation that happens to be painful is known as primary dysmenorrhoea, while secondary dysmenorrhoea refers to period pain caused by certain reproductive disorders such as endometriosis or fibroids. Treatment options include hormone replacement therapy, pain-killing drugs and surgery.

Menopause

Menopause is that time in a woman's life when the ovaries stop producing estrogen and she stops having periods. Menopause is a natural biological process, not a medical problem. Although it's associated with hormonal, physical and psychosocial changes in your life, menopause isn't the end of your youth or your sexuality.
